Thailand-based Nigerian Caught With Drug At Lagos Airport

Culled from Tribune
A 22-year-old Nigerian, who lives in Thailand, Ilechukwu Ejikonye Jude, has been apprehended with 1.295kg of substances found to be methamphetamine on his way to Thailand.
The drug, hidden inside the luggage of the suspect, was detected during the screening of passengers on Ethiopian Airline flight at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The suspect has confessed to investing N750,000 in drug trafficking.
Speaking on the development, the Lagos airport commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Hamza Umar, said the drug was carefully hidden in the suspects' luggage.
According to Ilechukwu, who said he was lured into the drug deal by a friend he met in Thailand, "I am a businessman. I relocated to Thailand last year where I buy goods and send to Nigeria. It was in Thailand that I met a man who introduced me to drug business.
"He gave my number to his partner in Lagos who lodged me in a hotel. They made me to offer N750,000 as my contribution and promised me a handsome reward on arrival in Thailand. My focus was on the profit that will accrue to me, it was when I was arrested that I realised I had made a big mistake."
Also, a 36-year-old suspected drug trafficker, Akpata Martin Chukwudi, who was given $800 for ingesting 20 wraps of cocaine, while narrating his ordeal, said he ingested the drug in Brazil and was apprehended at the Lagos Airport.
While he was on observation, the suspect allegedly excreted 20 wraps of cocaine weighing 350 grammes.
"I saw hell trying to ingest the drugs in Brazil. They brought about 100 wraps but I was only able to ingest 20. They were angry and disappointed but the more I force myself, the more difficult it was for me to swallow.
"Eventually, they gave me $800 in anger instead of $5,000. I actually decided to smuggle drugs because I needed money to settle my mother's hospital bill".
NDLEA chairman, Ahmadu Giade, said the agency would investigate all cases and bring drug culprits to justice.

Couple Jump-Off Bridge In China In Suicide Pact
This is the moment a newspaper photographer trying to take a snap of heavy fog that had blanketed a bridge captured a couple's suicide leap.
The photographer had been standing on a viewing platform ready to take a snap of the fog shrouded bridge across the Wuhan Yangtze River in Wuhan, at Hubei province in central China.
He said: 'The mist was so thick on the bridge so large that it looked as if the bridge was standing on and disappeared into air. Like a bridge into nothingness.

Police identified the man from some of the possessions he left at the top and said he was a 20-year-old migrant worker named as Liu Han
'To be honest I didn't even see the first person jump because I was concentrating so much on the camera settings and I didn't realise at first that I had snapped the man jumping to his death
'It was only then after snapping the photograph that I heard someone shout that somebody had jumped. I heard him hit the water below and then seconds later a woman climbed onto the bridge and jumped as well.
'I was totally paralysed – there was no way I could get anywhere near her, I still had my hand on the camera and I tensed and shot off another few frames entirely by accident – but ended up photographing the woman as well.'
Police identified the man from some of the possessions he left at the top and said he was a 20-year-old migrant worker named as Liu Han, and believed that the girl who has not yet been identified was his lover.
It is not known why the pair had made a pact to throw themselves to their deaths.
The boy's uncle contacted by telephone said that he knew the young man was struggling to make a living and he can only assume that it was money that was the problem – as without an income it would have been difficult for him to settle down with the young woman.
Police who searched the river after seeing the photographic evidence that the pair jumped failed to find either of the bodies and after dark the search was called off.
A police spokesman added: 'That is a 40 metre drop – it is extremely unlikely that either of them are still alive.'
Suicide rates among young people are high in China, where a person tries to kill themselves every two minutes, the government says.
According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, China's suicide rate is 22.23 people out of every 100,000.
About 287,000 people kill themselves in the country of 1.3 billion every year, while about two million try to commit suicide annually.
The disease control centre said suicide is the biggest killer among Chinese aged 15 to 34.

Extreme pressure to perform well at school and to find employment were the main reasons behind the high rate of suicide among China's youths, media said.
The suicide rate in rural areas is three times higher than in urban centres and accounts for 75 per cent of China's suicide total, it said.
According to the Guangzhou Daily, the number of suicides in China has risen sharply during the reform and open period, when the nation's economy has boomed and tall buildings and structures like buildings have been built.
Many spots such as the Wuhan Yangtze bridge have been dubbed a 'lovers' leap' after the number of couple who have committed suicide there.
In 2009, the British medical journal The Lancet identified Lithuania, Finland, Latvia, Hungary, China, Japan and Kazakhstan as all having exceptionally high rates of suicide, 20 per 100,000 people or higher.

Couple Goes Green For Shrek Wedding
Paul Bellas and Heidi Coxshall celebrated the happiest day of their life on Saturday by throwing a Shrek-themed wedding dressed as Shrek and Princess Fiona. Shrek out their photos.
-By Elise Sole
The couple who lives in the small European country of Jersey, got the idea for their nuptials from watching the movie with their son Leo. "The essence is that Shrek represents true love. It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like, if the love is there then that is what it is about," says Paul.

Bride Heidi Bellas, 30, before and after her ogre makeover.

Groom Paul Bellas, 42, before and after his ogre tranformation

The guests got into the spirit by wearing fairy tale costumes. "I was standing at the altar, there were only three guests in the room and they were dressed up. As the lift opened these people started to sit down but there was one dressed as a Flintstone with big feet," says Paul. "I started jumping up and down with laughter, if it wasn't for my friends and their embracing it, it wouldn't have been as special as it was."

One ferocious (and cute) little guest.

Shrek and Princess Fiona take their vows. According to Jersey law, the bride and groom have to be identified, so Paul had his green makeup applied in front of the registrar before the ceremony at the Radisson Hotel.

After making their love official, it's almost time for Princess Fiona to turn into an ogre.

The happy couple cut their wedding cake-topped with Shrek figurines, of course!

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Shrek! We wish them a happily ever after.
